License Lookup Tool

Use the Utah License Inquiry Service to verify the license of an insurance producer, agency, adjuster, or company.

Utah License Reinstatements

Insurance licenses are electronically reinstated up to one year from the inactivation date. If your license expired more than one year ago, you must submit a new license application and satisfy all of the licensing requirements of a first-time licensee. To do so, use the License Application service.

Please note: Appointments and associations are not reactivated when a license is reinstated; all appointments and associations must be re-established.

The following groups of lapsed licensees may submit a reinstatement request:

  • All insurance licensees.
  • Note: Resident individual insurance licensees must have met the continuing education (CE) requirements before reinstating a license

To submit for immediate electronic reinstatement, use the License Renewal / Reinstatement service.

Resident individual insurance producers who have met the CE requirements but are unable to submit a reinstatement online because the system still lists their CE compliance as pending should review their CE transcript and contact the provider of any course that does not appear. The provider will need to upload the associated course roster. Once the roster upload has been processed by the system, the producer will be able to submit the reinstatement application.

Utah Insurance Department Office Hours

Hours of operation for the Utah Insurance Department are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday, except on State of Utah recognized holidays.

Birth-Month Renewal/Expiration Dates for Individual Licensees

Utah individual licenses renew every two years on the last day of the individual's month of birth. For a new license, the very first renewal may be longer than a two year period in order to move forward to your birth month, and will then renew every two years thereafter. Failure to apply for renewal of the license will result in the expiration or lapse of the license.

Utah Resident License Applications

The Utah Insurance Department requires all individuals applying for a resident insurance license to be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting must be done at a Prometric test center, using "live scan" technology, which digitally captures and transmits the fingerprints to the Utah Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI), for a criminal history background check.

Additional information is available at the insurance department's Web site at https://insurance.utah.gov/licensee/producers/exam.

Free CE Transcript

You may now check the status of your continuing education compliance. For a free continuing education transcript, use the Education Courses/Credits Look Up service and then click on "Continuing Education Transcript Inquiry."
