Utah Resident License Applications
Effective November 30, 2007, the Utah Insurance Department began requiring all individuals applying for a resident insurance license to be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting must be done at a Prometric test center, using "live scan" technology, which digitally captures and transmits the fingerprints to the Utah Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI), for a criminal history background check. Effective May 16, 2008, the digital fingerprints are also forwarded electronically to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Fingerprinting is not required for resident licensees adding a line of authority to an existing license; only for first-time licensees.
For license types that require examination (Resident Consultant, Resident Producer, Resident Independent or Public Adjuster) the process is as follows:
If the applicant passes the examination and leaves the test center, they must schedule an appointment to return to the test center to have their fingerprints taken. They must present the Sircon application confirmation page when they return to have their fingerprints taken.
For license types that do not require examination (Bail Bond, Resident Limited Lines Producer, Resident Customer Service Representative) the process is as follows:
Additional information is available at the insurance department's Web site at www.insurance.utah.gov/LicensingProc.html or the Prometric site at www.prometric/utah/insurance.
