Wisconsin Variable Life/Variable Annuity Line of Authority - On September 1, the Variable Life/Variable Annuity line of authority was added to the individual Producer license. Electronic applications, appointments, and the PDB currently state 'Variable Life' as the available line of authority. This will be updated on October 23, 2009 to state the complete title for this qualification, 'Variable Life/Variable Annuity'. In the interim, please consider the title 'Variable Life' to represent 'Variable Life/Variable Annuity' for Wisconsin.
A bulletin dated August 13, 2009, directed to all licensed life agents and all licensed insurers with the authority to transact variable life insurance and variable annuity business in Wisconsin regarding variable life/variable annuity line of authority has been issued. Click here to access the bulletin. To apply for the new qualification, select 'Apply for a variable life/variable annuity license' from the menu on the left side of this page and follow the prompts.
Due to the current volume of applications received, it may take up to 3 or 4 weeks before any application is reviewed and approved. Continuous telephone or e-mail requests for application status slows the overall licensing process. Please keep in mind that individuals who applied for the Variable qualification are able to solicit these products under the previous requirements through March 31, 2010.
Changes in Agent Licensing Requirements and Fees - A bulletin to all insurers and agents regarding promulgation of rules effective September 1, 2009, and approval of statutory authority relating to licensing, prelicensing and continuing education for insurance agents has been issued. Online Association Maintenance - Association maintenance is now available to assist firms with updating their Wisconsin-licensed designated representatives. Click on "Maintain your firm association" located in the left-hand column to access the service.
Print Your License Online - The ability to print Wisconsin licenses online is now available. Please note that OCI will continue to send one standard license copy to new licensees and those who renew, even if you choose to use this service. To print a license online, select "Print a license" in the left-hand column of this page. This service is free for up to 30 days after license approval and renewal for license applications and license renewals completed through Compliance Express. Duplicate license copies can be printed at any other time for a Sircon service fee of $5.00.

Long-Term Care Partnership Producer Training Requirements - All licensed insurance producers who sell, solicit or negotiate long-term care insurance are required to complete by January 1, 2009, 8-hours of initial long-term care training, which includes 2-hours of training specific to Wisconsin's Medicaid program and state long-term care options. Producers must also complete 4-hours of long-term care insurance training every 2 years thereafter. Individuals who become licensed after January 1, 2009, must complete the initial 8-hour training prior to selling, soliciting or negotiating long-term care insurance. Non-resident producers selling long-term care partnership insurance in Wisconsin must take the 2-hour course specific to Wisconsin's Medicaid program and state long-term care options. Agents should contact the insurers with which they are appointed to sell long-term care insurance for additional information on training and the manner in which they must document and report to insurers. Wisconsin License Applications for Travel - Wisconsin issued a Bulletin February 28, 2008 regarding the creation of a new Limited Line of Authority for Travel Insurance which took effect April 1, 2008. All agents selling travel insurance in Wisconsin are required to obtain an insurance agent license. Individuals applying for a resident license with this line of authority are exempt from prelicensing education, examination and continuing education requirements.
