New Utah Legislation Affects Individual and Agency Licensing
The 2012 Utah State Legislature recently passed legislation which affects the way certain entities are licensed. The following changes became effective May 8, 2012:
Surplus Lines License Conversion
Effective May 11, 2012, the Department moved the active surplus lines authority on producer licenses to a separate Surplus Lines Producer license. A new, unique license number has been issued for the Surplus Lines Producer license. The expiration date of the new Surplus Lines license now matches the expiration date of the existing producer license.
Producer and Surplus Lines license renewals are affected as follows:
Additional information regarding Utah's changes is available on the Utah Insurance Department website at: http://www.insurance.utah.gov/docs/LicensingChanges4-10-2012.pdf .
Utah License Reinstatements Now Available Online
Insurance licenses are electronically reinstated up to one year from the inactivation date. If your license expired more than one year ago, you must submit a new license application and satisfy all of the licensing requirements of a first-time licensee. To do so, click on "Apply for a License" in the left-hand column.
Please note: Appointments and associations are not reactivated when a license is reinstated; all appointments and associations must be re-established.
The following groups of lapsed licensees may submit a reinstatement request:
To submit for immediate electronic reinstatement, click on "Renew or Reinstate Your License" in the left-hand column.
Resident individual insurance producers who have met the CE requirements but are unable to submit a reinstatement online because the system still lists their CE compliance as pending should review their CE transcript and contact the provider of any course that does not appear. The provider will need to upload the associated course roster. Once the roster upload has been processed by the system, the producer will be able to submit the reinstatement application.

The Utah Insurance Department ceased mailing hard copies of new, renewal, or duplicate licenses. Licensees may print a copy of their license on-line, free of charge, by clicking the "Print a License" link in the left-hand column on this page.

Utah Resident License Applications
The Utah Insurance Department requires all individuals applying for a resident insurance license to be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting must be done at a Prometric test center, using "live scan" technology, which digitally captures and transmits the fingerprints to the Utah Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI), for a criminal history background check.
Additional information is available at the insurance department's Web site at http://insurance.utah.gov/producers/exam_license_procedures.html.
Free CE Transcript
You may now check the status of your continuing education compliance. For a free
