Resident Limited Lines License Renewal
The following changes to your current resident limited lines license will take place to allow you to renew during the next renewal period which opens March 1, 2010.

Producers holding licenses as both resident producer and resident limited lines producer

  • Any current limited line qualification will be supported by the resident producer license
  • Resident limited lines licenses will become inactive on the date the qualifications are moved into the resident producer license
  • This change allows current resident producers to renew all qualifications under the resident producer license

Producers currently licensed only as Resident Limited Lines licensees

  • The current license will convert into a Resident Producer license with the limited qualifications under that license
  • The license number will remain the same
  • The licensee will then see a new Resident Producer License with an expiration date of April 30, 2010

Resident producer renewals open March 1, 2010 and remain open through April 30, 2010. You will not be able to renew until March 1. Renewal notices are ONLY sent by email. Email addresses can be updated at the time of renewal or by clicking on the link "Update your email address" on the left side of this page.

The Division requires renewals to be completed electronically through Sircon's Compliance Express by clicking on the link "Renew or reinstate your license" on the left side of this page. If additional documents are needed to complete the renewal, they can be attached electronically.

Licenses not renewed by the April 30, 2010 deadline will be cancelled.

South Dakota License Reinstatement
Nonresident producers are now able to reinstate their license by clicking on the 'Renew or reinstate your license' link located in the menu on the left-hand side of the page.

The South Dakota Division of Insurance Discontinues Mailing Paper Licenses
Effective January 1, 2010, paper licenses will no longer be sent by the Division. Producers who use the Sircon website to renew or submit an application can print their license for free for the first 30 days after approval from the Division. You can view your licensing information using the 'License Inquiry Service' link located at the bottom right corner of the state website at www.state.sd.us/insurance or you can also access the state website by clicking on Return to South Dakota Home Page in the upper left corner of this page.

Print Your License Online
To print a license online, select "Print a license" in the left-hand column of this page. This service is free for up to 30 days after license approval and renewal for license applications and license renewals completed through Compliance Express. Duplicate license copies can be printed at any other time at a cost of $5.50.

South Dakota License Numbers
Please note that producer license numbers no longer begin with SD- and leading zeros have been dropped. For example, license number SD-0001234567 will become 1234567. The new license numbers are also accessible through "Find your license number/NPN" link in the left-hand column.

South Dakota Business Entity Licenses
The Insurance Division no longer requires business entities to obtain a registration from the Secretary of State prior to licensure. This does not eliminate any registration requirements with the Office of the Secretary of State. Each business entity is encouraged to contact the Secretary of State's office if they have any questions as to whether registration is required of that entity.

Free CE Transcript
You may now check the status of your continuing education compliance. For a free continuing education transcript, click on "Look up Education Courses/Credits" in the left-hand column and then click on "Continuing Education Transcript Inquiry."

License Profile
You may now obtain your own license profile by clicking on the Check Your Status with a State link to the left. Click here to see all of the information contained in the license transcript. A nominal service fee may apply.
