Idaho Business Entity Licenses
Resident and non-resident business entities are required to obtain an Idaho insurance license in order to sell insurance in Idaho. Entities applying electronically must list at least one designated licensed producer who is currently licensed in Idaho and who holds the same lines of authority the business is requesting for their license. More than one producer may be listed if necessary to cover the lines of authority on the business entity license. Business entities must also register with the Secretary of State's office in order to conduct business in Idaho. The requirements are different for resident business entities than they are for non-resident business entities. Please refer to the information below regarding the differences:
Idaho License Numbers
Please note that producer license numbers no longer begin with letters, and leading zeros have been dropped. For example, license number AL012345 will become 12345. The new license numbers can be looked up and confirmed at no charge through the "Find your license number/NPN" link in the left-hand column.
Online Licensing Services
Idaho has opened on-line licensing services following its transition to using Sircon for States™ web-based solution for administering insurance licensing services.
The move to Sircon dramatically increases the online services Idaho provides to insurance carriers, agencies and producers across the country, enabling customers to connect with the Idaho Department of Insurance 24 hours a day.
If you have questions, please contact the Idaho Department of Insurance at 208-334-4250.
Idaho License Renewals
Please note that with the transition to Sircon for States™, Idaho also moved to birth-month based renewals. All individual licenses renewed or reinstated after September 18 are being converted to a birth-month renewal for the following renewal period. The next renewal date may be anywhere from 21 to 32 months from the date of the producer's current expiration date and will fall within his or her birth month. Once converted, all subsequent renewals will be two years from the first birth-month renewal date. The amount of CE due for residents and the cost of renewal will not change with this transition. Agency licenses will retain their current renewal date.
