Mergers/Dissolutions of Entities
Entities that have merged with another may require the cancellation of the agency license and issuance of a new one. If an agency is dissolved as a result of a merger, the surviving agency will need to obtain a new agency license and terminate the license of the agency that was dissolved. If the surviving entity is already licensed, producers that may come into the surviving entity from the dissolved entity must be re-registered.

Information about Adding a Line of Authority to an Existing License
Anytime a line of authority is added to an existing license, the line of authority will expire when the license expires. Therefore, if a line of authority is added 4 months before the existing license expires, the new authority will also expire in 4 months and will need to be renewed, with payment. The exception to this is if a line of authority is added during the renewal period. The renewal period is the 90 day period prior to the license expiration date. Authorities added during the renewal period will automatically renew without any required payment. Please note that only authorities added during the 90 day period will automatically renew. All other authorities must be renewed, with payment to avoid inactivation.

Information Regarding the Personal Lines Authority
Before submitting your application for Personal Lines and/or Property and Casualty, please click here to read the attached notice for important information. It is crucial that all applicants applying for Personal Lines and/or Property and Casualty understand the differences between these lines of authority. Please note that if the wrong authority is applied for, the Colorado Division of Insurance will be unable to refund the application and/or renewal fee.

Adjuster Potential Licensees
Please note that Colorado licenses ONLY public adjusters. Public adjusters are those who work solely for the public on a contract basis. Colorado DOES NOT license company or staff adjusters.

IF YOU ARE AN ADJUSTER OTHER THAN A PUBLIC ADJUSTER, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR AN ADJUSTER LICENSE IN COLORADO.

If you need additional information on adjuster licensing, please contact Pearson VUE at 800-275-8247.
